A Live / Work tinyhouse event space and community centered support system to springboard creatives into a purpose driven, life of happiness

I held a 4 week workshop for 19 interns at Hays High School here's a video of the prototype.

Explain your project idea (2,000 characters)

Building a completely self-sufficient community space that is independent of any external resources is almost impossible or is it?

In a world where basic human needs such as food, water, shelter and shared resources is becoming increasingly difficult to access, this project explores innovative community driven approaches to a complete systems redesign to understand what skills, information and expertise will be relevant in the future.

Starting with access to affordable housing this project introduces a modern approach to transform a 3d-model design into a steel frame structure that can be assembled by a team of 3 in less than 3 hours with a cordless drill. As part of this modular adaptable building design system, we will be integrating sustainable materials into the structure to turn it into a complete kit deployable anywhere around the world.

This workshop will be offered throughout the year to bridge the skills gap through innovation centered, project based learning supported by a network of 200,000+ Hackers / Makers.

Traditionally the ability to design complex building structures was only available to specialists in the field of architecture and construction. Our goal is to make it accessible to anyone and this skill can be also used for businesses to create food trucks, mobile homeless clinics, studios and more.

It is a vehicle to introduce the culture of minimalism to individuals seeking alternate lifestyles. How do we become creative problem solvers and achieve more freedom in our lives by eliminating the things we can live without?

The live/work space event will host hackathons, makerfaires and design challenges throughout the year to engage our community of entrepreneurs, inventors, innovators, hackers, makers, artisans and collaborators to learn about social impact problems and create tomorrows opportunities.

I believe that everyone has an idea and my vision is to incubate, accelerate and connect ideas to mentors and resources.

Who are the beneficiaries? (1,000 characters)

College Students, 18+ Startup Entrepreneurs, Inventors, Innovators, Hackers, Makers, Designers, Freelancers, collaborators that thrive in community spaces.

How is your idea unique? (1,000 characters)

At the forefront of of the 4th industrial revolution, I spent the last 8+ years building futurist communities in 70+ countries around the world hosting 200+ collaborative events.

These communities represent individuals that possess multi-disciplinary skillsets not commonly found in most other organizations or institutions. These Hacker/ Maker /Entrepreneurs/ Creatives represent a movement of individuals who are challenging the status quo and every institutional approach of solving problems faster and more efficiently.

Creating a permanent space for individuals to thrive year round, will demonstrate the impact of these skills on the future of our economy and civilization.

Idea Proposal Stage (choose one)

  • Early Adoption: I have completed a pilot and analyzed the impact of that pilot on the intended users of the idea. I have begun to expand the pilot for early adoption.

  • Majority Adoption: I have expanded the pilot significantly and the program product or service has been adopted by the majority of our intended user base.

In 3-4 sentences, tell us the inspiration or story that encouraged you to start this project.

In the 2010 recession, like many others I was forced to reinvent myself, I remember watching Sir Ken Robinsons TED talk about schools kill creativity. As a creative that was self-taught most of my life and didn't thrive in the traditional classroom environments, it reminded me of all the painful experiences I had with my peers. I decided it was my mission to save all the creative geniuses from this traumatic experience and I built a community of diverse experts that support the 'crazy' ones.

Please explain how your selected topic areas are influenced, in the local context of your project (1,000 characters).

Peace is influenced by diversity and inclusivity in the local community. Prosperity has been impacted by creating equal opportunity for all, not just the privileged. Planet has been impacted by localization of shared resources and a culture of sustainable living through wellbeing and reducing waste by conscious reuse.

Who will work alongside your organization in the project idea? (1,000 characters)

Corporations that have a Social Responsibility arm such as Ikea, Home Depot, HEB and Lowes would be great partners. I have initiated conversations and they have offered donation of products and resources in addition to outreach. Institutions like UTAustin have offered space and volunteers to collaborate. Austin Materials Marketplace and Reuse have offered materials.

Please share some of the top strengths identified in the community which your project will serve (500 characters)

Through running the HackadayPrize challenge, I've had 1,000+ hardware technology projects ranging from cube satellite navigation systems, to vertical farms, hydroponics, aquaponics, renewable energy projects, grey/black water filteration systems, rain collection systems and home automation systems actively being worked on.

Geographic Focus

Currently targeting the local Austin, Texas community, but plans to integrate other countries later.

How many months are required for the project idea? (500 characters)

1 Month = 1 TinyHackerHouse, <30 months = Sustainable Community.

Did you submit this idea to our 2017 BridgeBuilder Challenge? (Y/N)

  • No

If Yes, how has project idea changed, grown, or evolved since last year? (2,000 characters)

Here's a glimpse of one of our designs in the real world.
