Transition from 16 years in startup community Eco-system building into affordable housing real estate development partnered with the City of Austin
Last year my project proposal was selected to participate in an intensive 9-month affordable housing real estate developer program in partnership with the City of Austin Housing Authority.
I was part of a cohort of Architects, Real Estate agents, Construction companies, Lenders, Banking and finance experts in addition to expert mentors working on large scale affordable housing projects.
During the course of this program we visited a variety of successful affordable housing developers in all parts of Austin to learn about all the different models for development, based on this, I present my project proposal… Affordable Housing for resilient communities of entrepreneurs.
After 9 months of the hardest, most clarifying work I've ever done — I'm ready to say it out loud.
I'm an affordable housing developer.
Not someday. Not eventually. Now.
Nine months ago I started learning how to develop affordable housing. Today I'm a developer with a site, a plan, and a lender-ready pro forma — building in Austin's growth corridor for families earning 50–60% of the median income.
